Description:
As a co-leader for LEAPNOW, you will be asked to lead up to 15 students through Ecuador, Peru, and Argentina on a program that is designed to foster a deepening experience for 17-22 year-olds. LEAPNOW is an organization whose philosophy strongly believes that a better alternative to sixteen uninterrupted years in the classroom is to take time for exploration - real exploration that leads to life experience, perspective, and the beginnings of wisdom - time to engage the world in a genuine way reflecting on our individual interests - rather than continuing in a contrived learning situation.
Historically semesters have been a great way to get Americans out of the country and experiencing another culture in a safe environment. We typically ask our leaders to stop managing the semester and work rather in an empowering role so that our students have the opportunity and desire to grow into this next, adult, phase of life. Practically this means a period of time (a week or so) at the beginning of our semesters to train our leaders in the vocabulary of the inner journey. Ultimately, the travel that most appeals to staff here is the aspect that joins the inner and the outer travel to create a more full individual (students and leaders alike). We would like to see our students have the opportunity to broach subjects like integrity, truth and honest relationship, in a structured and supporting environment.
